So I started my day all normal and what not...and I got to work and popped open my google reader (if you don't have one, you NEED one), and one of the blogs I follow is some medically journally thing that I can barely understand. Nevertheless I read it, pretend to feel smart and usually move on...Howeva...today...there was an article that I could SORTA understand more so than usual AND its rather importante (yea I meant to put the "e" there. You're suppose to say it with a bad Mexican accent.)

Here is the snippet:
Scientists from the University of Wisconsin, USA, report in the journal Development the successful generation from human embryonic stem cellsof a type of cell that can make myelin, a finding that opens up new possibilities for both basic and clinical research. (here is the rest)

Didya hear that?! Cells that MAKE myelin? They make it, as in they create it, as in they can replace lost myelin! Shazaam! This is HUGE people. HUGE! The article was like....we used stem cells to create myelin...blah blah blah...we had to use emryonic stem cells...blah blah blah..we tested it in mice...blah blah blah...and it worked.

That was all the info I need. I still stand by my stance that we'll never get a cure, but shit if they turn this into a treatment that actually works, sign my ass up. Lets get all controversial here too...I do not care that they are using embryonic stem cells. Its not a dead baby. Its not some life that never got to be lived. Its a stem cell that can intensely help and even CURE many many diseases, including maybe even mine. So I'm all about it. I would normally insert some horrible dead baby joke right about here, however, I'd probably insult rest of the people that actually still read our blog. I'll save those jokes for later...like after we've been on Oprah.

Great news but honestly, do you think the FDA will approve a new treatment so controversial anytime this century? I know I'm not holding my breath. The gov't is too concerned with helping people pay for houses they couldn't afford in the first place. Better get in line for a passport now cause that's probably the only way we will get hooked up.... And I don't think you could handle Oprah - you would probably slap her the second she asks a dumb question - she did that a lot during the Montel interview - I am guessing it is to make her audience not feel stupid, but seriously!?!?!?

So I don't think that any new treatments are going to be approved anytime soon, but at least we're making a little headway into some clinical trials with actual human beings... The FDA did recently approve the first human trials with embryonic stem cell research, and using these myelin making cells that Jackie is speaking of,and coming out of the Univ. of Wisconsin none the less... The trial could be underway as early as this summer. Super effing exciting, and a good start I think. Funding is key, and even if we can see just a bit of this in our lifetime, I'll be happy... Here's a link to the article...

Amy,
You're probably right about Oprah...but shes no Tyra banks, that woman makes me want to punch infants. I would turn down the opportunity to go on her show................ok thats a lie.

Oprah's Montell show urked me. It didn't make me too happy at all. Because of her as well as him.
