I hate how I can be dragging ass all day long, super exhausted, and then when it’s finally time to for some sweet slumber, I’m wide awake. Nothing is more frustrating than spending two hours in bed trying to fall asleep, knowing I only have five hours before I have to be up. Five hours of sleep has not EVER cut it for me, MS or no MS. On top of making a few necessary changes to my diet such as cutting back on caffeine and sugar, I am thinking of making an appointment to see if I should look into some drugs to help out here.

I have been doing a little reading on Provigil, and although I would seriously like to stretch myself as far as I can without the aid of any symptom therapies, I am afraid I'm reaching my breaking point. Of course if I'm taking Provigil to keep me more awake and alert in the daytime, then perhaps that will only perpetuate the issue with not sleeping well at night. So maybe I'll have to get myself some sleeping pills too. Ugh. The thought of being on any new drugs, when the "disease modifying" drug I'm on now is beginning to make me feel like an overemotional basket case, isn't too thrilling. Oh decisions, I suck at making them lately.

Yeah, the drag-ass-all-day-toss-all-night thing seems to be a plague amongst all the MS bloggers I read right now. And the idea that pills are the only answer hella frustrating. Bullshit, all of it.

I hear ya. Provigil reacts so differently to different people, maybe you can get a sample from a doc just to try? Personally, I love it and 50mg/day is all I need to get me through the afternoons (always my worst drowzy time, even Red Bull can't handle it). I haven't experienced an inability to fall asleep at night with Provigil. I also have not ever required a sleep aid either. If I want/need to, I could probably sleep in a highway median, fer god's sake!

I take Provigil and I sleep like a baby. But that could be because of all the alcohol...
I take 200mg (of provigil, not vodka) - 1/2 in the morning and half at noon and have been on it for almost 5 yrs now and have not had too many problems sleeping when sober unless I am obsessing over something stupid my MS dumb brain made me say during the day...

I too, drag all day, only to find myself tossing and turning at bedtime, just waiting for the sandman. I have started thinking that I might as well just get out of bed at night, do whatever I want...and sleep when it happens. The problem with that, is if when dragging, it doesn't mean that I have the ability to sleep.
